Network Drives

Body

YCP network drives are digital storage areas. All students and employees have a Home (H:) Drive for individual use. Some employees have permissions to additional drives, such as Shared Areas.

You can use Google Drive in a similar way, which we usually recommend instead.

Types of drives

Google Drive is not linked to Network Drives, but offers most of the same features and many more. We generally recommend using Google Drive instead, whenever possible.

Employees of York College have access to several employee Google shared drives.

Your (H:) drive is one type of YCP file storage for documents and all file types. On a YCP computer, you can Map it, as described in the sections below.

The other is your Google Drive, which we recommend.

Your (I:) drive includes certain specialized software for some classes (check with your professor). This shared drive will show up on any campus computer after you log in (if off campus, you can access a campus computer remotely).

This drive contains resources that professors have made available to all YCP members. On a YCP computer, you can Map it, as described in the sections below. Or, from anywhere, you can access it at myfiles.ycp.edu.

Map Network Drives

On YCP-owned computers, you can map network drives. This allows to you easily access network drive content, as if it were stored on the computer.

Tip: If you seem to be missing a drive, restart the computer first.

On campus

Your drives will map automatically on Active Directory Windows computers. If you don't see them, restart your computer. Contact us if you still have trouble.
