FortiClient Update Process

Pre-Update Computer Checks: 

  • The computer is powered on

  • A stable Internet connection

The Update Process:

Your computer will receive the FortiClient update, once it is received, the computer will begin the update process in the background. If needed, you can still use the computer during this process. 

Once the update is complete, you will receive a notification indicating that a restart is required to finalize the installation (see photo below). It is recommended that you select the “Restart now” option. If needed, you can schedule or snooze the restart.

Note: There is a 24-hour deadline, after which your computer will automatically restart to finish the process.

Post Installation: FortiClient Web Filter Extension for Web Browser

Changing Extension settings for Forticlient

Upon restarting the computer and logging in, you may notice a persistent pop-up regarding the FortiClient Web Filter Extension for your web browser (see photo below). This is due to an extension setting that needs to be enabled within the browser.

Google Chrome Step by Step Instructions

1. Open Google Chrome

2. Select the Extensions Icon

3. Select the three dots next to the “FortiClient WebFilter”

4. Select “Manage Extension”

5. Toggle on the “Allow in Incognito” option. Once this option is selected, the persistent pop-up should no longer occur, and the FortiClient update process is now complete.

Firefox Step by Step Instructions

1. Open Firefox

3. Select the settings gear next to the “FortiClient WebFilter”

4. Select “Manage Extension”

5. Toggle on the “Allow” option. Once this option is selected, the persistent pop-up should no longer occur, and the FortiClient update process is now complete.

Microsoft Edge Step by Step Instructions

1. Open Microsoft Edge

2. Select the Extensions Icon
