Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH)

Body

This is the fastest and simplest way for YCP students to access applications and network files approved for remote access.

Note: If you don't see your needed software, it is likely that the application is licensed for remote access and will need to be accessed from an on-campus computer lab.

Accessing RDSH

  • Download CmsRdhp.rdp here

    • If you get a warning or alert, select Connect or Continue.

      • After this, you may have to find and reopen the file.

      • If you've already downloaded it, find and open CmsRdhp.rdp.

  • From the App store application on your Mac, find and install Microsoft Remote Desktop.

    • Tip: If you've already downloaded it previously, then you shouldn't have to again. Search for the Application on your Launch screen or via Finder.

    • Note: RemoteApp may not work on some older versions of macOS.

Launching RDSH

  • Launch Application

    • Windows = Open the downloaded RDP file

    • Apple = Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop Application

  • Sign in:

  • RDSH will load and appear just like a normal Windows PC Desktop.

    • Now you can navigate to your network drives or to any remotely licensed software.

Close the app when you're done

Once you're finished, close the application window with the X in the upper right. It is recommended that you sign out. This will allow the resources to be reallocated and you won't be taking up a seat. Choosing to disconnect instead would leave the session running (think of your computer being asleep at the log-in screen). If you choose to sign back in within the hour you will come back to the same session that it was previously left on.

Applications Approved for RDSH or Software

  • Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access)

  • QDA Miner Lite

  • SPSS
