YAMM

YAMM (Yet Another Mail Merge) lets you send personalized, targeted mass emails using your YCP Gmail & Drive.

Note: YAMM will not work with email aliases or delegates.

Caution: Gmail only lets you send a message to a maximum of 1500 recipients per day.

  • Example: To send a message to all of campus, you'll need to send it to a group of 1500 or fewer YCP members, wait 24 hours, then send it to another group of 1500 or fewer YCP members, etc.

If YAMM doesn't meet your needs, learn more ways to communicate to campus.

Request YAMM

We distribute the YAMM Gmail add-on, so if you're interested, please contact us to request it (if you haven't already).

Use YAMM

1. Make a contacts list

Notes

    • You must have column headers, in the first row, for each item of information you wish to import into your message.

      • Example: If you have a column with recipients' first names, type "First name" in the first cell of the column.

      • The first cell of the email address column must be: Email

2. Make an email template

Notes

    • Do not add any recipients in the To field.

      • YAMM uses the email addresses from the Email column in the Google Sheet to automatically fill the To field as it sends an email to each recipient.

    • You can personalize content with "markers".

      • Example: If you have a column labeled "First name" in your Google Sheet, then anywhere you write {{First name}}, each recipient's first name will automatically appear in their message. This can be done both in the Subject line and in the main message.

      • Each header in brackets must exactly match your column header in the Google Sheet.

3. Send a message

Notes

    • The Send test email button is a useful way to see if you did everything correctly.

      • If you notice any problems:

        • In your contact list, close the Start Mail Merge window.

        • Update your template email to correct the issues.

        • Start the send a mail merge with YAMM again from the beginning.

    • The Schedule button lets you choose a later date to automatically send this message.

Track & measure your message stats

Track and measure your emailing campaign results to view statistics, such as whether your email was opened, clicked, unsubscribed, etc.

Note: While you can share your contacts list with anyone, only you (the Google Sheet owner) can see any email responses.

Open tracking report & refresh merge status

Opening your tracking report will reveal a breakdown of how your recipients interacted with your message. It also automatically updates the Merge status column in your spreadsheet, to provide you the most current info.

  • Open your contacts list Google Sheet.

  • Select Add-ons > Yet Another Mail Merge: Mail Merge for Gmail > Open tracking report.

Check quota

Gmail lets you send a message to a maximum of 1500 recipients per day. Checking your quota will show how many more recipients you can send to today and approximately when your quota will reset to 1500.

  • Open your contacts list Google Sheet.

  • Select Add-ons > Yet Another Mail Merge: Mail Merge for Gmail > Check quota / upgrade quota.
